Complete beginner, where do I start?

I'm honestly just not sure where to start, I've been wanting to learn for a while but have never been very sure. If anybody has some guidance it would be very much appreciated :)

HelloChinese app. It's good. It's free. It's for beginners.

Start with HelloChinese but believe me when I say: don't stick to it. Just use it for a brief introduction to the basic language. Than start learning radicals. I kid you not: learn the radicals. You will learn everything so much faster if you know them. You don't have to be able to write them, but should recognise the most common 100 or so. You can find them on Wikipedia and probably sort by frequency. I wish somebody would have told me this in the beginning.
Than learn the HSK 1 Vocabulary and find some resources to train it and get a feeling for the structures. For grammatical stuff you'll find lots of resources online and I'd suggest you check out Chinese boost.

I highly recommend using Anki but adjusting it to your needs. There is a flash card set called spoon fed Chinese which starts with very easy sentences. It's probably a good idea to learn some of those everyday.

Do you know anyone that speaks Chinese? I've used both duolingo and HelloChinese and they are both very useful! But going off just apps can stagnate your progress imo, my boyfriend is Taiwanese and it helps a lot to ask him about pronunciation and have him speak with me. I've also found that watching cartoons in Chinese really helps because they don't use very difficult vocab. A good one is Shin Chan, they have almost every episode in Chinese for free on youtube (you have to look it up specificially in Chinese because I believe it is originally in Japanese).
